Marriage Proposals?

[edit]

Excuse me, but is the marriage proposals thing necessary or relevant?

Well, don't know if it is necessary, but it certainly gives a little colour to the article. Was he especially charismatic? Kevyn 08:29, 9 Jul 2004 (UTC)
From what I understand, not quite Kennedy-level, but yes. Rhymeless 08:47, 9 Jul 2004 (UTC)

Der Alte?

[edit]

Suggestion for re-write: According to Wikipedia:List of encyclopedia topics/Biographies A, he was affectionately known as "der Alte." Might be good to mention that in the article. Kevyn 08:30, 9 Jul 2004 (UTC)

Agreed. From what I could tell from two years in Germany, he was almost universally known as the (the Old Man or the Old One).

Image problems

[edit]

When I first saw this article, the image was enormous, and didn't even fit on the screen. I got rid of it, so if anyone wants to try and figure out what was going on and then fix it, that'd be good. SS451 21:08, May 15, 2005 (UTC)

Clarify this text

[edit]

"Adenauer refused the diplomatic recognition of the rival German Democratic Republic as East-German state and the Oder–Neisse line as post-war frontier to Poland" . I can't work out what this means. If someone knows, please clarify. Fig (talk) 23:13, 7 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]

In simple terms: He refused to offer recognition to the rival German government of East Germany, and disputed the status of the Oder–Neisse line as the new border between East Germany and the Polish People's Republic. Remember the border was decided in negotiations between the two communist states, and West Germany was not part of these negotiations. Dimadick (talk) 01:14, 8 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Clarify ambiguity "close relations with France"

[edit]

The word "close" has 2 meanings: 1 - to conclude, shut off. 2 - to approximate, become more closely connected. In the paragraph near the beginning of the article the meaning could be wrongly interpreted and needs to be clarified: "In the early years of the Federal Republic, he switched focus from denazification to recovery, and led his country to close relations with France, the United Kingdom, and the United States." I suggest: "In the early years of the Federal Republic, he switched focus from denazification to recovery, and led his country to improve connection with France, the United Kingdom, and the United States."
